Recommended Websites How A Car Turn Signal Works The use of turn signals is an effective way of communicating with other drivers about your change in direction. Turn signals, also known as flashers, blinkers or direction-indicator lamps, are commonly mounted near the left and right front and rear corners of the car. Turn signals were used as early as 1907. However, it was only in 1939 that these warning devices became standard equipment for all vehicles. In other modern cars, you can find signal lights not just on the rear part of the vehicle but also on the side mirrors. Here are some pertinent details on how a car turn signal works: The turn signal circuit gets power when the ignition key is on. It can be controlled by pushing a lever up or down, depending on what direction you intend to go. A turn signal unit is incorporated into the system and is used to break and reconnect the blinker bulb circuit which makes the blinking light action. It is a small cylindrical gadget made up of an electrical contact, a spring steel and a resistive wire. When a blinker fails, the system stops flashing and the lights just stay on. The purpose of c car turn signal is to provide illumination for the driver to operate the vehicle safely during night time or in poor visibility situations. Failure in your turn signals can cause accidents and "road rage" too. Having broken signal lights is also a traffic violation. So it is really important to always check if they are working before driving. Always replace blinker bulbs that are recommended by your car's manufacturer. Automotive
